Threading
Threading involves the creation of threads in a piece of metal. Threading is an essential operation for the use of hardware or to create a seal for assembled pneumatic or fluid systems. In order to create threads in a piece of plate or sheet metal a tap is used to cut the threads into a pre drilled hole. Normally these types of threads are used for the attachment of bolts to hold parts together.

A lathe is also capable of creating threads on the inside or outside of a tube or solid bar. These threads are normally used to create fittings primarily used in pneumatic or fluid systems.
